Attempted Carjacking on Hanover Street

Early reports stated that the suspect was successful in stealing a vehicle, but police said the individual did not get away with anything.

What was initially reported to be a carjacking on Hanover Street Monday night was actually a case of attempted robbery, and the suspect fled the scene without scoring anything, a Boston Police spokesman said.

7News WHDH reported Tuesday morning that a gray sedan was stolen in a carjacking in the North End, but that was not the case.

According to police reports, at around 11:14 p.m. Monday evening, July 8, a vehicle pulled up behind another car on Hanover Street. The driver shut off the headlights, then approached the vehicle in front. The individual pulled down the hood of a sweatshirt and produced “either a knife or a syringe” and tried to gain access to the other person’s vehicle by pulling on the handle, according to a BPD spokesman.
