Daily 5: Summer Reading Kickoff at North End Library

Deadlines, events and other items you should know about on Friday, June 28 in the North End.

1. Rainy weekend ahead: Showers and a possible thunderstorm are expected on Friday, mainly before 3 p.m. and into the evening, with some storms producing heavy rain, according to the National Weather Service. High: 80, Low: 69. Weekend forecast: Showers are likely both Saturday and Sunday, with possible T-storms and heavy rain. Highs around 80-81, lows around 66-70.

2. Puppet show: Drop by the North End Branch Library (25 Parmenter St.) on Friday at 10:30 a.m. for Caravan Puppets’ tales and songs of great diggers in literature. After the show, sign up for summer reading and receive a tote bag and reading log.

3. Free Fun Friday: Tour many of Boston’s top historical sites for free during Free Fun Fridays. Tour passes will be given away beginning at 10:30 a.m. on a first-come, first-served basis. Choose from a History Tour, North End Tour and Pirates and Patriots Tour. Most tours leave from the ArtsBoston BosTixBooth at Faneuil Hall. Click here for more information.

4. Sailing open house: The Boston Sailing Center (54 Lewis Wharf) will host an open house on Saturday from 1-4 p.m. Enjoy free sailing trips led by experienced sailors and learn more about the programs offered by BSC.
