33 Residents Displaced After Eight-Alarm Fire in East Boston

The Boston Fire Department estimated that 33 residents were displaced from three homes in East Boston after an eight-alarm blaze broke out on Lexington Street Wednesday night. 

Crews responded to the fire around 7:23 p.m. Wednesday to battle the blaze in the area of 85 Lexington St., the Boston Fire Department reported. Additional units were called to fight the fire as a series of alarms went off in rapid succession.

One firefighter was reportedly treated and transported by Boston Emergency Medical Services to an area hospital, according to the Boston Fire Department. No other injuries were immediately reported as of 11 p.m. Wednesday. 

The fire caused an estimated $750,000 in damages and was contained to the primary building, and crews worked to knock the fire down shortly before 9 p.m. Wednesday, with several master streams and blitz guns in operation, according to the Boston Fire Department.

The displaced residents were transported to the Sacred Heart Church with the Mayor's Neighborhood Services and Boston Fire Department's Victims Assistance staff working on lodging, according to the Boston Fire Department, which also reported that Boston Sparks and the Salvation Army Canteen crews were on scene Wednesday.
