Boston Patch Editors Volunteer at Animal Rescue League

The local shelter is looking to adopt out 1,200 animals in 12 weeks, by Aug. 31.

Eight Patch editors from all the Boston Patch sites spent Tuesday afternoon volunteering at the Animal Rescue League of Boston in the South End, part of the company-wide "Give 5" initiative, which encourages Patch employees to volunteer somewhere in our communities at least five days a year.

Donning our Patch T-shirts and armed with flyers, posters and three friendly dogs, we set off to get the word out to Boston residents that the Animal Rescue League is trying to find homes for 1,200 animal this summer.

The dogs—Bingley, a four-month-old Husky mix, Lady Jane, a two-year-old shepherd mix, and Gilbert, a one-year-old Chihuahua mix—are all currently available for adoption. And we can tell you from experience, they'll make great pets!

Together we canvassed Tremont Street, Dartmouth Street, Back Bay Station and Clarendon Street with ARL Volunteer and Educational Programs Manager Deb Vogel, handing out flyers and posters to business owners to hopefully get the word out to potential adopters.

And the day ended with a fantastic surprise: North End Editor Becca Manning adopted a 10-week-old kitten!
