Unique Fashions Inside Fleet Street Boutique
Owner of Twilight in the North End explains how a woman can go from night to day for any occasion.
While Alison Barnard was studying for her MBA at Babson College in 2003, she worked part-time at a boutique just for fun.
“I love fashion,” said Alison. “Then I had an idea.”
Alison realized that there should be a store focused specifically on jeans.
“Finding the right pair of jeans can be worse than bathing suits,” she said. “You need someone to guide you through the process to find the correct fit.”
So she opened a store in the North End called In-jean-ius on Hanover Street.
That was seven and-a-half years ago.
“A lot of customers who came into the shop had trust in me and my taste,” said Alison. “I didn’t want to sacrifice my focus at In-jean-ius so I decided to open a boutique with dresses.”
In March 2007, Alison opened the doors of Twilight at 12 Fleet Street.
“Our tag line is styles that take you from day to night for any occasion,” said the owner of this unique shop.
She carries dresses, scarves, handbags, jewelry and under garments.
“I call it the sophisticated older sister of In-jean-ius,” Alison said.
The clothing is appropriate for all ages, she believes.
“We have inexpensive jewelry for teenagers and carry the popular Alex and Ani bracelets,” Alison said. “We also have fashions for young professionals that are work appropriate.”
Customers tell Alison that they love shopping at Twilight because they can buy something they know no one else will be wearing.
“I don’t replenish the stock,” Alison said. “I get a few pieces and then bring in new ones.”
Shipments arrive at the shop every day so there’s always something new.
“I carry special and unique pieces for glamorous occasions as well as every day fashions,” Alison said.
Having an MBA has certainly helped her with the two shops.
“Ultimately, I am running a business,” Alison said. “I do have a good sense of style but one needs an excellent business model to make a success of a boutique.”
