New Coffee Shop Opens in North End

The thinking cup comes to Hanover Street.

The thinking cup, located at 236 Hanover Street, opened on Monday, December 10.

Owners Andre Sadowski and Hugh Geiger wanted to create a classic cozy environment where people can relax, explained Manager Aprille O’Neill.

“Customers can sit, read the newspaper, have a cup of coffee and have a conversation with friends,” she said.

Here in the North End, Aprille said, there are numerous coffee shops that are excellent.

“Andre and Hugh are looking to bring specialty coffee to this neighborhood,” she said. “We serve medium-roasted beans and syrups made right here.”

All the baristas are highly knowledgeable and trained in latte art and espresso training.

“We are trying to express the original intention of our roasters in terms of specific espresso-blend taste,” said Andre.

The coffee is “Stumptown” – a brand out of Portland, Oregon.

In addition, the thinking cup has an on-site pastry chef named Thao Rich.

“She has created all the pastries which are made here,” Aprille said.

The thinking cup also serves breakfast, sandwiches and soup.

Andre created the design of the shop.

There are tabletops, counters, shadowboxes on the wall with antiques inside.

The tables, where customers sit, all have newspaper pages that highlight important historical events.

The hours are Monday to Sunday with opening at 7:00 a.m.

The thinking cup closes Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday at 10:00 p.m.

The rest of the week the shop closes at 11:00 p.m.
