5 Things: Free Film, Taste of Faneuil Hall

Deadlines, events and other items you should know about on May 23 in the North End.

1. Rain: Today will be cloudy with a chance of showers and thunderstorms and patchy, dense fog before 11 a.m., according to the National Weather Service. More rain, heavy at times, is expected in the evening. High: 74, Low: 61.

2. Free film: Drop by the West End Museum (150 Staniford St.) today at 6:30 p.m. for a free screening of the 1957 film “Five Steps to Danger,” part of the museum’s May film series celebrating actress Ruth Roman, who lived in the West End and learned to act at the Elizabeth Peabody House. 

3. Memorial Day observance: Boston’s Memorial Day observances begin today with a service at 10:30 a.m. at the Soldiers and Sailors Monument on the Boston Common. Hosted by the Massachusetts Military Heroes Fund, the event will include the reading of the names of Bay State soldiers killed as a result of military operations in Iraq and Afghanistan.

4. Kickball league: The Boston Ski and Sports Club offers co-ed and men’s kickball leagues on weeknights at the Bunker Hill Community College fields in nearby Charlestown. Games start between 6:15 and 9:30 p.m. Participation costs $45 for BSSC members and $70 for non-members. Learn more at BSSC.com.

5. Taste of Faneuil Hall: The inaugural Taste of Faneuil Hall will be held today from 6-9 p.m. at Ned Devine’s Parris Lounge and Upper Rotunda (1 N. Market St.) will feature food, craft beer and live music. Tickets cost $10 and are available online at faneuilhallmarketplace.com. All proceeds will benefit Boston Children’s Hospital.
